What is is witr mandatory?

Witr is a voluntary prayer in Islam that is typically performed after the Isha (night) prayer. It is not mandatory, but highly recommended as it is considered a Sunnah Mu'akkadah (confirmed tradition of Prophet Muhammad). Muslims often pray Witr as a way to seek forgiveness, supplicate to Allah, and strengthen their connection to Him.

The Witr prayer consists of an odd number of rak'ahs (units of prayer), with most commonly being prayed as three rak'ahs. Some Muslims also have a tradition of praying Witr as one, five, seven, or eleven rak'ahs.

While not obligatory, many Muslims make it a habit to perform the Witr prayer regularly as it is considered a sign of devotion and commitment to their faith. It is also believed to bring blessings and protection from harm.
